My Top Ten Arcade Games of All-Time
The following games are my all-time favorites. They have special meaning to me and hold a special place in my mind and heart.
10. Star Castle - One of the first games to which I became addicted. It was also one of the earliest games that I mastered to where I could usually play for a long time and get a high score.
09. Gorf - I love this game because it is Frog spell backwards! I also liked to take chunks out of the mother ship until there was just an energy core remaining.
08. Tron - I love the increasing speed as the game progresses and the light cycle levels!
07. Discs of Tron - The stand up version of this game was awesome. I felt like I was in a different world.
06. Joust - I was always good enough to make the daily high score list, but there were some real fanatics for this game in my area that would keep me off of the all-time list.
05. Pole Position (sitdown) - The best part is the hairpin turn where you can grab the steering wheel and just throw it to the left and let the steering wheel free-spin while you go through the corner!
04. Playboy 35th Anniversary Pinball - My favorite parts of this game are Hef welcoming me to the party and the little moan that a babe would give if you pressed the flipper button between balls. Also, the loud POP! from winning a free game which caused everyone to look at you.
03. Freedom Fighter - A laser disc game that was only available in Malibu Grand Prix locations. It was very well done and required lightning fast reflexes.
02. Crossbow - "Beware Foolish Mortal! For I am the Master of Darkness! I have watched you conquer my forces... Now, Prepare to Face Me!" Also, "Don't Shoot Your Friends!" :)
01. San Francisco Rush: The Rock - Perhaps the best sit down driving game ever. I feel as if I am actually in the car with the exaggerated gravity and physics. Track 2 is the best and I can usually claim first place for this track on the machine any time that I see it.
If you ever get the chance to play any of the above coin-op games, jump on it!
